Sen. Nancy Binay Walks Out after Clash w/ Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano
NANCY BINAY – The lady Senator clashed with her fellow lawmaker, Alan Peter Cayetano, during a Senate hearing and walked out.
The Senate leadership recently went through switching. Former Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri stepped down as the Senate President. According to him, his decision came after knowing that many senators will vote his removal from his post.
It was an emotional moment not only for Zubiri but as well as for several senators when the then-Senate President have his final speech as he resigned. Sen. Bato dela Rosa was in tears during the final speech of Zubiri. The former Senate President stressed that he gave his best in fulfilling his role since he took the Senate leadership.
Sen. Migz Zubiri was replaced by Sen. Chiz Escudero in the Senate leadership. Since he assumed his new post, one of the key matters that gained the attention of the new Senate President is the multi-billion cost of the construction of the Senate building.
Hearings were set to check into the spending for the Senate building construction. However, during a recent Senate hearing, two lawmakers clashed which resulted to one of them walking out from the hearing.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, earlier in the Senate hearing, Emil Sadain, the undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways, apologized when Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano question his statement that the project cost has not reached Php 23 billion.
However, as for Sen. Binay, the DPWH Undersecretary does not need to apologize. She stressed what was stated in the documentation.
“So tama po na on your documentation, there’s no such thing as P23-B from DPWH. So I think, USec Sadain, hindi niyo ho kailangan mag-apologize,” the lady Senator said.
Sen. Cayetano expressed that the presentation of the DPWH cited Php 21.7 billion and it will result to Php 23 billion if the land cost will be added. The exchange of the two Senators later led to the claim of Sen. Binay that a lawmaker is allegedly backstabbing her.
“Ang linaw-linaw ng issue, P23-B galing sa staff mo. Ikaw ang pumupunta sa media, sa radio. Kung ano-anong paninira, kung ano-annong sinasabi mo sa akin,” Cayetano said.
Furthermore, Cayetano told Binay that if someone is backstabbing her, she must file a case against that person. He also denied that he was the one who is backstabbing her to which the lady Senator reacted saying she did not name him.
“‘Di ba sabi nila, ‘pag nagre-react ng ganiyan, baka guilty,” Binay said.
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, based on the report, told Sen. Nancy Binay that her name is Lourdes and not “Marites”. He stressed that they must fix it as it is humiliating. The lady Senator reacted and walked it.
“Hindi po tayo Marites, Mr. Chairman,” Binay said before walking out from the Senate hearing.
