Mother of Child Who Died from Jellyfish Sting Turns Emotional Seeking Help from RTIA

The mother of the child who died from a jellyfish sting is seeking justice

JAHAZIEL MANINGDING – The mother of the child who died from a jellyfish sting was in tears while seeking help from Raffy Tulfo in Action (RTIA) to close down All Hands Beach Resort in Subic, Zambales.

Jahaziel recounted that there was no warning about the jellyfish threat at the beach resort. She was shocked when her child, Ranziel, screamed while they were swimming, only to find many jellyfish tentacles stuck to the child’s body. Jahaziel was also stung by the jellyfish.

She added that Ranziel was not immediately taken to the hospital because the resort had no available vehicle. Although a guest eventually helped rush the child to the hospital, Ranziel passed away while being treated.

Despite what happened, the resort continued to operate, and no representative from the resort approached their family to formally apologize. Jahaziel said she was not seeking compensation from the resort but wanted to ensure that no other customer would suffer the same fate.

Senator Raffy Tulfo immediately called Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Eduardo Jose Aliño, suggesting that All Hands Beach Resort be closed immediately while the incident and its compliance with safety standards are investigated. This includes having lifeguards, nurses, water nets, vehicles, and posted warnings at all times.

Aliño agreed with Sen. Raffy’s suggestion and promised to order the closure of the resort that same day. He also assured Sen. Tulfo that he would inspect all beach resorts in Subic to ensure their compliance with the established safety standards.

Meanwhile, jellyfish stings can be deadly due to their venom, which is injected through special cells called nematocysts. When these cells touch the skin, they release toxins that can cause intense pain, allergic reactions, and even heart problems. Some jellyfish, like the box jellyfish, have venom strong enough to stop the heart within minutes. Severe stings can also lead to breathing difficulties and damage to the skin, causing serious pain and infections.
