Veteran Actor-director Manny Castañeda Passes Away
MANNY CASTAÑEDA – Film actor-director Manny Castañeda passed away today, July 1, according to his lifelong friend Jose “Joey” Javier Reyes.
Jose Javier Reyes, the chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), announced the death of actor and director Manny Castañeda on Facebook on Monday, July 1.
Reyes posted an homage to his 61-year pal Castañeda on social media and shared a black-and-white photo of the two in mourning. “Honestly, I do not know how it is going to be without my best friend just sitting out there ready to bitch it out with me. We may have our differences in political beliefs, we may have our arguments but we were there for each other… all the way,” Reyes wrote.
Joey Reyes did not reveal Castañeda’s age, the date, or the cause of his death in the post. Reyes concluded his tribute with a heartfelt message: “You are such a great part of my life because you are my irreplaceable BFF. I am going to miss you big time.”
Celebrities such as Pops Fernandez, Agot Isidro, Wilma Doesnt, Jed Madela, and Vickie Rushton expressed their condolences in the comments section.
Castañeda was known for his roles in films like Aliw (1979), Oro Plata Mata (1981), and Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas (1986). He also appeared in television series such as Makiling and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. As a director, he worked on films like Sa Kabilugan ng Buwan (1997), May Isang Pamilya (1999), and Shame (2000).
