TEMU Shopping App Facts
TEMU – A certain Deborah Keefer shared some startling facts about the shopping app, uncovered by radio talk show hostess Kim Komando.
Everyone’s talking about Temu (pronounced “tee-moo”), an online shopping app boasting deals that appear too good to be true, like $17 wireless earbuds, $1 “gold” necklaces, and $23 wedding dresses. Since its U.S. launch in September 2022, Temu has been downloaded by over 50 million Americans, thanks in part to expensive Super Bowl ads promising to let you “shop like a billionaire.” Today, Temu is the second most popular shopping app in the U.S., right behind Amazon. But there’s more to this app than meets the eye.
Origins of Temu
Temu is not just any new app. It is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and operated by PDD Holdings Inc., which is headquartered in Shanghai, China. PDD also owns the e-commerce platform Pinduoduo, also based in China. This means it is fundamentally a Chinese-based app and site.
Important Facts About Temu
When using the app, you are buying goods directly from manufacturers in China and other parts of the world. The prices are low because the products are cheap, and the items you receive may not match the advertised pictures. It has a BBB rating of 2.21/5, and its reviews on TrustPilot are mixed, with 38% 5-star reviews and 41% 1-star reviews.
Temu’s enormous marketing budget ensures it dominates search engine results, even if it means making losses on most sales to drive out competition. However, the real issues with the app go far beyond questionable product quality.
Privacy Concerns and Security Risks
Temu is not just a shopping app; it is a pervasive digital stalker. It monitors your activity on other apps, tracks your notifications and location, and changes your settings. More alarmingly, it gains full access to your contacts, calendars, photo albums, social media accounts, chats, and texts—essentially everything on your phone.
No shopping app should have this level of control, especially one tied to Communist China. If you have Temu installed, it is advised to delete the app immediately. Adding to the concern, Temu’s sister app was previously removed from Google Play due to malware issues.
Final Warning
Do not buy from this company or use their app. Protect your personal information and privacy by steering clear of Temu.
