A student touched many hearts as he held his moving-up ceremony certificate while taking a photo in front of a Pares eatery in Iloilo City.
Recently, Florence Hibionada, a Facebook user, shared a heartwarming moment she witnessed at a roadside pares eatery in Iloilo City. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
That evening, Hibionada was out celebrating the birthday of her colleague, Eduardo Parreno, a beloved figure in their community. After buying favorite dishes for their colleagues, her friend suggested the same roadside eatery.
The eatery, which operates from late afternoon until 3 AM, offers a hearty meal for just P120, including overloaded pares, unlimited soup and rice, and a free RC Cola. Hibionada and her group enjoyed a satisfying dinner to mark Eduardo’s birthday.
During the dinner, the young student arrived in his school uniform, proudly displaying his green moving-up certificate. The Pares men welcomed him with high-fives and joy, celebrating his achievement.
Hibionada couldn’t resist but to capture the heartwarming moment and congratulated the young boy.

The male student was accompanied by his older cousin, who works at the eatery located towards Baluarte corner of Timawa in Molo, Iloilo City.
Hibionada learned that the young boy helps out at the pares place during his free time from school to earn his allowance. The older cousin expressed their work ethic simply: “Luto kami sang sa mag-istambay ah” (We cook rather than do nothing).
The uploader explained that meaningful celebrations don’t always require lavish gifts or grand gestures. For this proud graduate, a bowl of pares and the company of loved ones is enough.
