Paintings of an Artist Aged 2 Sell for P400K

2-year-old artist and his paintings

LAURENT SCHWARZ – A two-year-old artist has made waves in the international art world with his vibrant abstract paintings depicting animal figures, selling for over US$7,000 or PHP409,734.50.

His artistic journey began during a family vacation last year when he became fascinated with art pieces in a resort’s activity room. Back in Germany, his parents set up a studio for Laurent, allowing him to unleash his creativity.

Laurent’s paintings feature unique abstract forms combined with recognizable animal figures, such as elephants, dinosaurs, and horses. His mother, Lisa, notes his preference for vibrant colors, avoiding what he considers “boring” hues. Lisa also highlights Laurent’s clear artistic preferences in color combinations, which contribute to the popularity of his paintings.

With a growing following on social media, Laurent’s paintings quickly gained attention, prompting his mother to start selling them online. Despite the commercial success, Lisa prioritizes Laurent’s artistic freedom, allowing him to paint what he desires and determining when he wants to work in his studio.

Remarkably, Laurent also demonstrates surprising artistic awareness, quickly identifying his own paintings among thousands at an art fair in Munich. His earnings from painting sales are being saved in a bank account for his future, where Laurent envisions spending on candies and more colors, emphasizing his love for both.

While Laurent stands out as a young artist, he’s not alone in making waves. Ace-Liam Nana Sam Ankrah, recognized as the world’s youngest artist by Guinness World Records, began painting at just six months old. His abstract painting, titled “The Crawl,” created at age one year and 152 days, garnered attention and was exhibited in Accra’s Museum of Science and Technology. Despite the success, details about the value of Ace-Liam’s paintings remain undisclosed.

Both Laurent and Ace-Liam showcase exceptional artistic talent at remarkably young ages, underscoring the innate creativity present in children and the potential for early artistic expression.
