Makagwapo Flexes Money Garland He Gave to His Brother
MAKAGWAPO – The social media personality, whose real name is Christian Merck Grey, flexed the money garland he gave to his brother.
A money garland, often used in various cultural ceremonies and celebrations, is a decorative chain or wreath made from currency notes. This detailed creation involves carefully folding and arranging the notes into flowers, shapes, or other artistic patterns, often mixed with ribbons, beads, or other decorations to make it look more appealing.
The garland can be simple or very complex, depending on the occasion and how fancy it’s meant to be. In many cultures, especially in South Asia and the Philippines, money garlands are given to people during important events like weddings, graduations, or big birthdays, symbolizing wealth, good luck, and a token of love and respect from the giver. The time and effort put into making a money garland show how much the gift is valued, making it a cherished keepsake that holds both monetary and sentimental value.
Christian Merck Grey, also known as “Makagwapo,” reposted the money garland he gave his brother during a moving-up ceremony at a private school in Quezon City last year. Grey flexed this gesture amid the season of recognition, moving-up, and graduation ceremonies. His caption read, “Congrats brother! Wala ehh. Mayabangg kuya mo (emojis),” accompanied by two photos of him and his brother, with the money garland reaching the school floor.
Meanwhile, DepEd-7 director Salustiano Jimenez emphasized that while parents have the discretion to give money garlands, they should consider the potential impact on the entire community and the mental health of children without such garlands. He suggested parents use their conscience and the provided guidance to decide whether it is appropriate to display such garlands during graduation ceremonies.
