Meet Mark Lorence Bazan, an Adopted Magna Cum Laude Graduate
MARK LORENCE BAZAN – A magna cum laude graduate from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) in Zamboanga City deeply moved netizens.
Bazan, who completed a degree in Bachelor of Special Needs Education, publicly honored his adoptive parents during his graduation ceremony. He placed his earned medal around his adoptive mother’s neck while on stage, sharing a tender moment that resonated with many.
In a Facebook post dated May 13, Bazan shared a graduation photo featuring his adoptive parents. His mother held a placard reading “Labandera ako,” while his father, a farmer, stood proudly beside them. Bazan’s placard emphasized that their humble occupations did not prevent him from achieving academic excellence, stating, “pero hindi yun naging hadlang para makagraduate ako, MAGNA CUM LAUDE pa nga!”
Bazan used the post to pay tribute to his adoptive parents, acknowledging their unwavering support and sacrifices. He revealed that he was the first member of his family to graduate from college, a milestone that brought immense pressure but also served as his motivation. Bazan’s parents, both senior citizens, could no longer work due to their age, which further fueled his determination to succeed and support them.
Despite facing financial challenges, Bazan found various ways to survive college, often taking on different jobs to provide for his family. He shared that his social media persona did not reflect the reality of his social status and struggles.
Bazan expressed deep gratitude for his adoptive parents, noting that they never made him feel different or out of place. From elementary school through college, they consistently supported his education. Now, Bazan feels it is his turn to repay their sacrifices and efforts, highlighting the profound impact they have had on his life.
