Annulment Case of Lian Paz vs. Paolo Contis
LIAN PAZ – The ex-partner of Paolo Contis decided to withdraw her petition to annul her marriage to the actor-television host.
In an exclusive interview with Cabinet Files on June 4, 2024, Lian explained her decision: “Nag-withdraw ako kasi kulang ang evidences and all. Maraming hassle. So I’m thinking, maybe may ibang paraan si Lord, at hihintayin ko na lang yung will Niya, not mine anymore. This time, I want to trust the Lord.”
Paolo first filed for annulment in 2012, but the court dismissed it in 2014. In 2021, Lian filed her own petition for annulment at the Regional Trial Court of Marikina. However, she reversed her decision in March 2024, resulting in an emotional response. This withdrawal means she cannot marry her longtime partner, John Cabahug, who has lovingly accepted and cared for her two children with Paolo, Xonia and Xalene. Lian and John also have a daughter together.
Despite the disappointment, Lian accepts the consequences of her decision, placing her worries in God’s hands. She found peace after her emotional decision, believing that if God arranges her life, nothing will go wrong. Her faith has grown stronger as she trusts in God’s plan and faithfulness.
Lian no longer worries about public perception of her marriage to Paolo, focusing instead on how God views her. She emphasized that both she and her partner, John, are now walking with the Lord and have surrendered their relationship to Him, trusting that God will resolve everything for His glory.
Reflecting on her experience, Lian acknowledged her growth, stating that God taught her many lessons, especially about marriage. She admitted that her marriage to Paolo might have failed because she wasn’t a woman of God who knew how to submit in everything, and she gave up without fighting the right way.
Lian and Paolo married in 2009 and separated in 2012.
