LEA SALONGA – Broadway icon Lea Salonga to be immortalized with a realistic wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore
Lea Salonga rose to fame by originating the role of Kim in the musical “Miss Saigon.” She was the first Filipino and Asian to win both a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress for this role.
She made a comeback to Broadway in the musical “Here Lies Love” in 2023, where she played the mother of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Aurora Aquino. She most recently starred in the West End production of “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends.”
Not only has Lea Salonga had an amazing career in theater, but in 2011 she was awarded a Disney Legend for her role as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s “Aladdin” and as the lead character in “Mulan.” In addition to her roles in Filipino film, the theater legend starred in “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” as a cast member in 2021.
It was revealed on the museum’s Instagram feed that Lea Salonga will soon be memorialized with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Singapore.
“Shining, Shimmering, Splendid! The legendary Lea Salonga will have her very own wax figure in #MadameTussaudsSG! Are you as excited as we are?” read the caption.
The post featured a video of Salonga meeting with a team and being measured for the figure.
“It’s an absolute honor and a privilege. It’s fantastic,” she said in the clip.
The “Miss Saigon” star then addressed her fans, saying, “Hi everybody. I’m super excited to be joining Madame Tussauds with my very own wax figure. Are you ready?”
Celebrities like Vina Morales, Martin Nieverra, and Catriona Gray—who also has a figure in Singapore—congratulated the award-winning singer-actress in the comments section.
