Kuya Kim Falls Victim to Death Hoax
KUYA KIM – The Kapuso television host called out a TikTok video announcing his death.
Alejandro “Kim” Ilagan Atienza, also known as Kuya Kim, is a well-known Fi television presenter and former politician. He is the eldest son of Lito Atienza, a former Mayor of Manila and Buhay Party-List Representative. Kim Atienza began his education at the University of Santo Tomas but later transferred to the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Film and Audiovisual Communication.
Atienza’s political career began in 1995 when he was elected as a councilor for the 5th District of Manila, a position he held until 2004. During his tenure, he made headlines with a resolution declaring actress Claire Danes persona non grata after her critical comments about Manila. Despite his active role in local politics, Atienza chose to retire from politics in 2007, citing the field as “scary.”
Following his political career, Atienza became a prominent figure in Philippine media. He started in radio with DZEC Radyo Agila and transitioned to television, hosting various shows such as “Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas” and providing voice acting for popular Japanese series like “Hikari Sentai Maskman” and “Voltes V.” He gained widespread recognition as the weather presenter for “TV Patrol” and hosted the educational show “Matanglawin.” In 2021, Atienza moved to GMA Network, where he joined the “24 Oras” newscast and hosted segments and shows like “#KuyaKimAnoNa,” “Mars Pa More,” and “TiktoClock.”
Kim Atienza popularly known as Kuya Kim debunked a false TikTok post on Facebook that claimed he had died on June 3, 2024. The TikTok account used a black-and-white photo of him and a misleading message. Kuya Kim labeled the post a “hoax” in bold red letters and wrote, “Aabot din tayo diyan, but not today.” Fans and celebrities, including Rita Daniela, Ashley Rivera, Arnold Clavio, and Donita Rose, expressed their annoyance at the false claim on his Instagram page.
