After being ‘insulted’ by FAMAS, Eva Darren receives an award
EVA DARREN – The veteran actress, after allegedly being “disrespected” by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) for not being called onstage to present an award, will be receiving an accolade.
Eva has been in the acting industry since 1963 and continues to be active today. She debuted in films during the early 1960s and gained recognition when she won the FAMAS Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Ang Pulubi” (1969).
In 1998, she received a nomination for the Gawad Urian Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin” (1997). She is also known for her memorable portrayal as the adoptive mother of Kristine Hermosa in the popular TV series “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” (2000) and as a fortuneteller in “Sineserye Presents: Patayin Sa Sindak si Barbara” (2008).
Eva gained attention in the media when she became embroiled in a controversy at the 72nd FAMAS Awards. She was replaced as a presenter at the last minute due to alleged difficulties in locating her by the ushers. FAMAS later issued an apology for the incident. Despite this, Darren and her family accepted the apology, expressing their hope for better organization in future events.
After the disrespect she received from FAMAS, Eva Darren received an award from another award-giving body. Darren is set to receive the “Most Empowered Veteran Actress of the Year” by the Gawad Dangal Filipino Award.
Aside from Eva, other awardees listed include Maricel Soriano, Roderick Paulate, Piolo Pascual, Alessandra De Rossi, Pokwang, Aiko Melendez, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, and many others.
Meanwhile, At the height of the snubbing issue, Vince Tañada, the director of FAMAS, who also served as one of the presenters at the ceremony held at the Manila Hotel on Sunday, May 26, left a cryptic post on social media. “Haters (are) gonna hate. Regardless of what you do. So just move on and live your life to the fullest,” he noted.
