Today marks the second time Deniece Cornejo is celebrating her birthday inside the prison
DENIECE CORNEJO – The former model is celebrating her 33rd birthday today, June 1, 2024, marking her second time celebrating her birthday in prison.
Deniece first experienced celebrating her birthday behind bars when she turned 23 on June 1, 2014, while detained at the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. At that time, she was detained due to the serious illegal detention case filed against her by Vhong Navarro, related to the incident that occurred at Forbeswood condominium building, Taguig City, on January 22, 2014.
In an exclusive interview with Deniece’s father, Paul “Dennis” Cornejo, he shared his wish for his daughter’s birthday. He expressed his desire for Deniece to hold on to her faith in God and to believe that justice will eventually prevail.
Dennis, who resides in the U.S., has not had the opportunity to see Deniece personally since she was incarcerated at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City on May 2, 2024.
He expressed his concerns over the negative portrayal of Deniece in the media and online platforms and emphasized the need for balance in people’s perceptions. Despite the challenges, he remains steadfast in his faith and believes that these trials are tests from God.
Deniece was sentenced to reclusion perpetua by Branch 153 of the Taguig City Regional Trial Court on May 2, 2024, along with other defendants, for the serious illegal detention for ransom case filed by Vhong. Reclusion perpetua carries a penalty of imprisonment for 30 to 40 years.
After a few days of quarantine, Deniece will be allowed visitors, increasing the possibility of her grandfather, Rod Cornejo, visiting her on her 33rd birthday. Rod expressed his intention to visit Deniece at CIW to pray with her and possibly have a small birthday celebration, pending approval from CIW.
