QC Car Repair Shop Criticized: P3,500 Bill Turns into P35,000
QUEZON CITY – A netizen shared her bad experience at a car repair shop in Banawe, where the expected payment of P3,500 for repairs escalated to P35,000.
Car repairs and home maintenance costs in the Philippines vary widely depending on several factors. For car repairs, routine maintenance such as oil changes and brake pad replacements typically range from PHP 1,000 to PHP 5,000, while major repairs like engine or transmission work can start at PHP 10,000 and escalate significantly for more complex issues or luxury vehicles. Bodywork repairs for dents or collision damage also span a broad spectrum, costing anywhere from a few thousand pesos to over PHP 20,000 for extensive repairs.
Home repairs in the Philippines follow a similar pattern of variability. Basic repairs such as minor plumbing or electrical fixes generally cost between PHP 500 to PHP 2,000, whereas more involved renovations like upgrading a bathroom or kitchen can range from PHP 20,000 to well over PHP 100,000, depending on materials and scope. Structural repairs, which require professional assessment and intervention, can run into tens or hundreds of thousands of pesos, depending on the severity of the issue.
Speaking of which, a netizen shared her bad experience at a car repair shop in Banawe, Quezon City. According to Facebook user Deslour C. Cayabyab, the expected payment of P3,500 for repairs escalated to P35,000. Cayabyab recounted that they went to the shop with friends just to look at dash cams.
She claimed that a staff member approached them and offered various services, including an upgrade supposedly to smooth out the vehicle’s passage over potholes. They were even warned that it would be dangerous if they didn’t replace their tie rod because it was already soft. Cayabyab said they were shown a video of a customer who refused to replace it and subsequently had an accident.
Because of this, Cayabyab said she was convinced to get the service done. “Nong una ng presyo 3500, hangang inabot na ng 35,000 Yong binayaran,” she said.
