Congress to Probe the Identity of Mayor Alice Guo
ALICE GUO – The mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, may face a congressional investigation following concerns raised by lawmakers during a recent Senate hearing regarding her identity.
During the Senate hearing, Senator Risa Hontiveros questioned the absence of school and hospital records for Guo, especially after allegations surfaced linking her to a raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) in the province.
When asked about her birthplace and the school provider associated with her homeschooling, Guo responded with statements indicating uncertainty, stating that she “doesn’t know” and “can’t remember.” Reportedly, Guo registered her birth at home at the age of 17 and does not possess a diploma due to her continued education through homeschooling, facilitated by a tutor while residing on a farm.
In response, House Assistant Majority Leader and AKO Bicol party-list Representative Raul Angelo “Jil” Bongalon suggested during a media briefing on Monday, May 13, reported by ABS-CBN News, that the lower chamber may conduct a parallel investigation into Guo’s case, considering the alarming findings from the Senate.
“On the issue of Mayor Alice Guo, I guess it’s a possibility to have a parallel investigation here in House of Representatives. This is very serious and at the same time very alarming, because imagine, allegedly isa pong Chinese person, was able to register herself 17 years after na siya po ay ipinanganak, so late registration po ‘yung nangyari,” Bongalon stated.
“These are very alarming. Kumbaga minamanipula nila ang ating mga batas ang atin pong mga proseso dito sa ating bansa and dapat po matigil ito. This is a national security issue na kailangan pong pagbigyan at pagtuunan ng pansin ng ating gobyerno,” he emphasized.
Bongalon also reminded the Commission on Elections to thoroughly scrutinize candidates for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. “Dapat i-screen nila lahat ng mga kakandidato ngayong darating na midterm elections, na dapat sila po ay nagsasabi ng totoo,” he asserted.
