Maricel Soriano Speaks on Alleged Involvement in PDEA Leaks
MARICEL SORIANO – The veteran actress attended the second hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs due to her alleged involvement in the “PDEA leaks” on May 7, 2024. This controversial list from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, dating back to 2012, purportedly included names of individuals involved in drug use in the country, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Maricel Soriano was specifically mentioned in the leaks as allegedly using illegal drugs at a condominium unit in Rockwell, Brgy. Poblacion, Makati City. At the Senate hearing, chaired by Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Soriano firmly denied any involvement with illegal drugs. However, she confirmed that she did own the mentioned condominium unit until 2012 when it was sold.
During the hearing, Senator dela Rosa requested a copy of the deed of sale for the unit to further investigate the matter. Soriano could not remember the exact month when she sold the unit.
Additionally, the hearing noted the absence of former Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, who was also invited but could not attend due to scheduling conflicts. In a letter, Ochoa mentioned that he had prior commitments that could not be rescheduled at that moment. Senator dela Rosa stated that if necessary, Ochoa would be subpoenaed to ensure his attendance at future hearings. Ochoa was also mentioned in a previous hearing as having obstructed an anti-illegal drugs operation.
This ongoing investigation into the PDEA leaks and the alleged involvement of high-profile individuals like Maricel Soriano and others continues to draw public and media scrutiny, reflecting the complex and sensitive nature of drug-related accusations in the Philippines. The issue had garnered significant media attention, and when President Marcos was asked about the leaks the day before the hearing, he merely laughed in response.
