Batangas couple reaches Naga City after a 139-day walk

BATANGAS TO NAGA CITY – After a 139-day walk, Jay and Mira Abrara, a couple from Batangas, successfully reached Naga City in Camarines Sur, covering 2,000 kilometers towards their 5,000-kilometer goal despite the intense heat.

Their aim was to convey a message of encouragement, emphasizing that facing challenges together can strengthen a marriage. Mira expressed that their “walk for a cause” is about reinforcing marital bonds, rejecting separation as a solution to marital issues.

139-day walk

They commenced their trek on December 6, 2023, from Batangas City, with the ultimate destination being General Santos City in Mindanao. Batangas City marked their starting point, and they initially headed northward before heading down to Matnog, aiming to complete their journey in Luzon.

Carrying all necessities in their go-kart, including water, cooking gear, and clothing, they sought shelter in barangay halls or police stations along their route. Jay and Mira Abrara, a married couple from Batangas City, undertook this journey to demonstrate that challenges are primarily mental constructs.

Meanwhile, walking has many advantages for both your body and mind. First, it’s an easy exercise that anyone can do, no matter how old or fit they are. Regular walking can help make your heart stronger, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and keep your weight in check. It also helps keep your muscles and bones strong, improves your balance and coordination, and reduces the risk of conditions like osteoporosis and arthritis. Walking aids in better digestion and blood flow, which keeps you healthy overall.

Additionally, walking outside gives you exposure to sunlight, which helps your body make vitamin D and can lift your mood. It’s a great way to relax and relieve stress, allowing you to clear your mind and enjoy nature. Walking can also be a social activity when done with friends, family, or pets, helping you feel connected to others and part of a community.
