PNP Chief Says They Are Working on Arrest of Quiboloy
APOLLO QUIBOLOY – Police Director General Rommel Francisco Marbil acknowledged ongoing efforts to arrest the fugitive preacher, who claims to be the son of God.
During an interview on April 23, Marbil explained that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is leading the manhunt, with police support. He noted that finding Quiboloy isn’t very hard due to their strategic approach, though he chose not to share more details with the media.
Marbil’s remarks were made during his visit to Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo, Leyte, where he previously served in the Philippine National Police-Eastern Visayas. His comments came after Senator Risa Hontiveros questioned why the police and other agencies hadn’t yet captured Quiboloy, who faces charges including child abuse, assault, and trafficking.
The police chief emphasized a cautious and measured approach to moving forward with Quiboloy’s arrest but avoided discussing the matter in depth.
Apollo Quiboloy is a Filipino pastor who founded the Philippines-based Restorationist church, the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), in 1985. He claims to be the “Appointed Son of God” and has made numerous other grand claims about his divine authority. Quiboloy also established the Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) and is known for his close relationship with former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
Quiboloy is currently wanted by the FBI and was indicted by the Central District of California for a range of criminal activities including sex trafficking, human trafficking, marriage fraud, coercion, money laundering, and cash smuggling. His controversies extend beyond criminal charges; he has been accused of severe human rights abuses. In response to these allegations and activities, the US Department of Treasury and Department of State imposed sanctions on him in 2022 for his involvement in human rights abuses and corruption. These sanctions were part of a broader initiative targeting individuals and entities worldwide responsible for such violations.
Additionally, Quiboloy has faced legal challenges in the Philippines, where he has been accused of brainwashing and holding members against their will, and involvement in violent incidents attributed to land disputes. His political influence is noted through his endorsements in various Philippine elections and his outspoken views against the Communist Party of the Philippines.
