Why Quiboloy should not be arrested according to his camp?
PASTOR APOLLO QUIBOLOY – The legal team of the controversial religious leader responded to a Senate show cause order, asking why he shouldn’t be detained for not attending hearings on accusations.
In their 19-page reply, Quiboloy’s lawyer, Melanio Elvis Balayan, argued that the Senate’s investigation went beyond its job of making laws, getting too involved in legal matters. Balayan said the Senate’s decision to start the investigation was unfair and assumed Quiboloy was guilty, breaking the rule that people are innocent until proven guilty in court. Balayan explained that Quiboloy didn’t go to the hearings because he believed legal issues should be dealt with in court.
Balayan stressed that the Senate’s decision was unfair to Quiboloy and said Congress should be careful not to harm people’s rights when investigating. He said they would wait for the Senate’s reply before deciding what to do next.
“Hanggat nakasalang po ang aming Compliance and Show Cause Order, hihintayin po namin ang tugon ng Senado sa aming Legal Compliance at from there we will take it po kung ano ang the best legal avenue or legal actions we could take,” Balayan said.
Quiboloy, who founded the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), denied the accusations, saying they were made up out of spite. He called this situation where people make false claims because they’re angry “a pot of trouble.”
“Ako po ay hindi nag-asawa. Ngayon inaakusahan ako ng napakaraming babae. Eto po ang kasalanan ko. Pinayaman ako ng Panginoon. Akala nila sa akin, single ako, kaya pinag-aagawan ako. Pagkatapos na ako’y maghihinde, mapapahiya, ibabaliktad nila sa akin. ‘Yan ang tinatawag kong Potiphar’s wife syndrome,” he said.
Meanwhile, Quiboloy is being looked into by the House of Representatives over claims about legal problems at Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI), a media company connected to him.
