One of the giants in terms of social insurance in the Philippines is the Government Service Insurance System. More popularly called GSIS, it has millions of members from across the nation as a GSIS membership is mandated among the regular government employees.

Every month, the members of the Government Service Insurance System pay for a monthly contribution or savings to the state entity. It is usually done through a payroll deduction that is automatically deducted from their monthly salary and remitted by the office to the state-run social insurance institution.

GSIS members may qualify to the benefit offers of the state entity as well as the GSIS loans. With regards to the benefits for the members, one of them is the GSIS Separation Benefit.

Most members look forward to the Retirement Benefit but not everyone may be able to reach the retirement age before seperating from service or qualify for the retirement programs offered by the Government Service Insurance System. Meanwhile, these members have something to turn to — the GSIS Separation Benefit.

The amount that a member may receive under the benefit offer may vary. If the member has been in the service for at least three years but less than 15 years, and below 60 years of age, he/she is entitled to a cash payment equivalent to 100% of the Average Monthly Compensation for every year of service payable upon reaching age 60.

If the member has been in the service for at least 15 years and is below 60 years of age, the member may get a cash payment equivalent to 18 times the Basic Monthly Pension (BMP) payable upon separation and monthly pension for life starting at age 60.

Here are the steps on how to apply for the GSIS Separation Benefit:

The Seperation Benefit was crafted by the Government Service Insurance System for members who are not eligible for retirement under the Republiuc Act 8291 for not meeting all the qualifications set under the program.

There are documents that you need to prepare and submit to GSIS in filing for a Separation Benefit claim to the state-run social insurance agency. Here are the requirements for application:

  • Service Record with Leave without Pay (LWOP) Certification (indicating specific time and dates of LWOP)
  • Declaration of Pendency/ Non-Pendency of Case (DPNPC) form (date administered/ notarized should be on or after receipt of notification from GSIS.

With regards to the process in filing your GSIS Unemployment Benefit claim, there are several options that you can choose from such as the following:

  • Over-the-Counter
    • Visit a branch of GSIS nearest to you and submit your documents for the GSIS Unemployment Benefit claim.
  • Online Process
    • Accomplish the application form
    • Prepare JPEG or PDF file copies of your documentary requirements.
    • Email your files to your designated email address with the subject containing the following information:
      • TYPE OF GSIS BENEFIT (underscore) BP NUMBER (underscore) LASTNAME (underscore) FIRSTNAME (underscore) AGENCYNAME
    • Wait for the following:
      • Email aAcknowledgement from GSIS
      • Tentative Loan Computation and Loan Conformity
      • Notification of incomplete and/or non-compliant documents (if applicable)
  • GWAPS KIOSK
    • Find a GWAPS KIOSK nearest to you
    • Place your UMID and thumb mark on the GWAPS kiosk.
    • Pick the benefit you wish to file a claim for and follow the instructions to complete the filing of claim.
