American rapper Cardi B tries balut for the first time
CARDI B – The American rapper Cardi B attempted to eat balut, a Filipino delicacy, but ended up struggling with it.
In a TikTok video shared on March 7, 2024, Cardi B expressed her curiosity about balut, which she had seen on social media for some time. Before trying it, she took two types of antacids to protect her stomach and prepared a mixture of lemon, salt, and pepper to go with the balut.
The American rapper started by cracking open the balut with a spoon and adding the seasoning mix. She then tried to sip the broth but found it difficult at first. Undeterred, she tried again, holding her nose this time, and managed to sip the broth without gagging.
After that, Cardi B peeled the entire balut egg, revealing the duck embryo inside. Upon seeing the whole balut, especially the duck embryo, she screamed in shock. Despite her initial reaction, she decided to try the yolk first. However, after dipping it in the seasoning and attempting to chew it, she spat it out, expressing her dislike for its meaty taste, comparing it to uncooked chicken.
Despite not enjoying the egg itself, the rapper admitted to liking the broth. She declined to rate the balut, saying that it wasn’t for her, but she was glad she tried it. She suggested that she might have prepared it incorrectly and would need someone who knew how to cook it.
This attempt at eating balut was not Cardi B’s first encounter with Filipino cuisine. In 2020, she tried lumpia, pancit, and buko salad, and enjoyed them. The video also featured a Filipino companion.
