Bato Dela Rosa reacts to accusations against Quiboloy
RONALD “BATO” DELA ROSA – The former Philippine National Police chief-turned-senator expressed disbelief at the accusations against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, whom he regarded as the “Son of God.”
Dela Rosa stated that he highly respected and admired Quiboloy, finding it unlikely for him to commit the alleged offenses.
“Hindi naman ako nakatingin sa kanya 24 hours pero if you ask my opinion about him, he is highly respected. Ako mismo humahanga sa kanya. He is the son of God. So, less expected ko sa kanya na gumawa ng ganong offense,” he said. “Ang impression ko sa kanya ay respetado siyang tao at hindi niya kayang gawin ‘yung mga ganong kababuyan na ina-allege sa kanya,” he added.
Dela Rosa’s sentiments were shared by other senators, including Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, and Robin Padilla, who questioned the purpose of the Senate’s investigation into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) led by Senator Risa Hontiveros. Padilla, in particular, opposed the decision to cite Quiboloy in contempt and sought support from fellow senators to prevent the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him.
Despite not being a member of the Senate committee overseeing the investigation, Bato dela Rosa criticized the probe, calling it increasingly political, especially considering ongoing legal actions pursued by the Department of Justice against Quiboloy. He questioned the value of the investigation if legal proceedings were already underway.
Senator JV Ejercito initially supported Padilla’s move but later withdrew his commitment due to the serious allegations against Quiboloy. Ejercito emphasized the importance of hearing Quiboloy’s side, suggesting the possibility of allowing him to attend the probe virtually for security reasons. He stressed the need for a fair and balanced inquiry, ensuring that all sides, including Quiboloy, have the opportunity to present their perspectives.
