The Social Security System has several SSS benefits for its members which include the Retirement Benefit. Thus, it can really help you plan and prepare for your retirement years to ensure that you always have something to turn to financially apart from your bank savings.
To qualify for the offers of the state-run social insurance giant, it is important to maintain an update membership by posting monthly contributions which will depend on your earnings. In most cases, the contribution take only a small slice of the monthly income.

Step 1 — Make sure to prepare the requirements set by the Social Security System for the SSS membership application:
- duly-accomplished SSS Form E-1 (Personal Record)
- an original (or Certified True Copy) and a photocopy of any primary document such as any of the following:
- Passport
- Birth or Baptismal Certificate
- Driver’s License
- Seaman’s Book
- Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Card
- you may also submit two (2) of any of the following secondary documents:
- ATM card with the cardholder’s name
- Bank Account Passbook
- Birth or Baptismal Certificate
- ATM card and certification from the issuing bank if the account number doesn’t bear the cardholder’s name
- Alien Certificate of Registration
- Certificate from various authorities
- Certificate of Licensure, Qualification Document, or Seafarer’s ID from the Maritime Industry Authority
- Certificate of Naturalization from the Bureau of Immigration
- Company ID
- Company Representative Authorization Card issued by SSS
- Credit Card
- Fisherman’s Card issued by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
- GSIS Card or Certificate of Membership
- Health or Medical Card
- ID card issued by professional organizations recognized by the PRC
- Life Insurance Policy
- ID card issued by Local Government Units
- Marriage Contract
- NBI Clearance
- Pag-IBIG Member’s Data Form
- Membership card issued by private companies
- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration card
- PhilHealth Member’s Data Record
- School ID
- Police Clearance
- Postal ID
- Senior Citizen Card
- Seafarer’s Registration Certificate issued by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration
- Tax Identification Number (TIN) Card
- Transcript of School Records
- Temporary License and Student Permit issued by the Land Transportation Office
- Voter’s Identification Card or Affidavit
Step 2 — Submit your documents to a branch of the Social Security System (SSS). In case you already have an SS number used in your previous employment, you can simply reactivate your membership and use the said SS number. You just have to tick “OFW” as the payor type when posting your contributions.
Step 3 — Otherwise, if it is your first time to apply for a membership to the state-run social insurance institution, you will be given your SS number after the processing.
