How To Apply for SSS Member as Kasambahay & the Requirements

In the Philippines, one of the giants in terms of social insurance is the SSS or the Social Security System. A membership to this state entity is an excellent preparation against the unforeseen circumstances and the retirement years.

In the case of household helpers, a lot of employers require their household helpers to be members of the Social Security System to widen their options during financially-challenging instances and help them prepare for the future better. The employer pay a portion of the monthly contribution.

How to apply to be an SSS member as a kasambahay? The application can be done by either the household helper or the employer. Here is a guide for the kasambahays or the employers on the application process:

Step 1 — Make sure to prepare the requirements set by the Social Security System for the SSS membership application:

  • duly-accomplished Kasambahay Unified Registration Form which may be filled out by either the household helper or the employer
  • Household Employer Unified Registration Form duly-accomplished by the employer
  • Household Employment Unified Report Form duly-accomplished by the employer
  • an original (or Certified True Copy) and a photocopy of any primary document such as any of the following:
    • Passport
    • Birth or Baptismal Certificate
    • Driver’s License
    • Seaman’s Book
    • Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Card
  • you may also submit two (2) of any of the following secondary documents:
    • ATM card with the cardholder’s name
    • Bank Account Passbook
    • Birth or Baptismal Certificate
    • ATM card and certification from the issuing bank if the account number doesn’t bear the cardholder’s name
    • Alien Certificate of Registration
    • Certificate from various authorities
    • Certificate of Licensure, Qualification Document, or Seafarer’s ID from the Maritime Industry Authority
    • Certificate of Naturalization from the Bureau of Immigration
    • Company ID
    • Company Representative Authorization Card issued by SSS
    • Credit Card
    • Fisherman’s Card issued by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
    • GSIS Card or Certificate of Membership
    • Health or Medical Card
    • ID card issued by professional organizations recognized by the PRC
    • Life Insurance Policy
    • ID card issued by Local Government Units
    • Marriage Contract
    • NBI Clearance
    • Pag-IBIG Member’s Data Form
    • Membership card issued by private companies
    • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration card
    • PhilHealth Member’s Data Record
    • School ID
    • Police Clearance
    • Postal ID
    • Senior Citizen Card
    • Seafarer’s Registration Certificate issued by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration
    • Tax Identification Number (TIN) Card
    • Transcript of School Records
    • Temporary License and Student Permit issued by the Land Transportation Office
    • Voter’s Identification Card or Affidavit

Step 2 — Go to the nearest brand of the Social Security System (SSS) and submit your documentary requirements for the membership application. The application may be filed by either the household helper himself/herself or the employer.

Step 3 — The SSS will process the membership application and, once done and approved, the staff will give you your SS number. It is the unique set of digits to be used in the payment of your monthly contributions.
