Step 1 — Are you qualified?
The qualifications vary among the GSIS Retirement Programs. Here are the eligibility criteria set under each retirement benefit program:
RA 8291 or the GSIS Act of 1997
- must have rendered at least 15 years of service and must be at least 60 years old upon retirement
- must not be permanent total disability pensioner
Presidential Decree (PD) 1146
- must have rendered at least 15 years of service and must at least be 60 years old upon retirement
- last 3 years of service prior to retirement must be continuous and your employment status is permanent
RA 1616 or the Take All Benefit
- must have entered government service before June 1, 1977
- must have rendered at least 20 years of service regardless of age and employment status
- last 3 years of service prior to retirement must be continuous, expect in cases of death, disability, or abolition of position due to reorganization
RA 660 or the Magic 87
- must have entered government service before June 1, 1977
- appointment status must be permanent
- last 3 years of service prior to retirement must be continuous, except in cases of death, disability, or abolition of position due to reorganization
- must be at least 52 years old and meet the corresponding years of service (YOS) required for eligibility

Step 3 — File your SSS Unemployment Benefit Claim Application
There are different ways on how you can file your retirement claim to the Government Service Insurance System. Here are the options that are up for the GSIS members:
