A lost diamond wedding ring has been found
SOUTH CAROLINA – Melanie Harpe experienced a disaster on January 28, 2024, when her diamond wedding ring accidentally fell into the bin while she was disposing of her garbage.
She was devastated by what happened but did not lose hope. She sent an email to the City of Greenville’s Public Works department. In her email, she said, “I know the likelihood of finding this is slim to none. But, if the ring is found during the course of processing the recycling, I would be most appreciative if someone could contact me.”
On January 30, workers at the recycling plant began searching for Melanie’s wedding ring. They temporarily halted the processing of recyclables and instead engaged in a treasure hunt. It was akin to searching for a needle in a haystack.
Even the supervisors joined in the search for the wedding ring. They lifted the trash from the bin, carefully inspecting each piece in the hopes of finding the ring. After an hour, Public Works employee Travis Golden spotted it.
The joyful event was posted on the official Facebook page of the City of Greenville, South Carolina. According to the Facebook post, “Golden struck gold. White gold. They called a very grateful Melanie who came out to [the public works building] to reunite with her ring.”
Other Public Works employees who assisted in finding the ring were also mentioned. “Besides Travis, the other team members involved were Jeff Hammond, James Burnside, Frank Daigneault, and Manny Cruz. We are so grateful for your commitment to our community.”
Melanie expressed profound gratitude to them and even took a photo with her saviors. Netizens quickly praised the Public Works employees. One netizen said that they should get treated to a steak dinner. Another recommended that every one of them deserves a performance review and salary increase.
Based on the Facebook posts of the City of Greenville, South Carolina Government, this was not the first time that the department’s employees patiently searched for things lost or accidentally thrown into the recycling plant. They also rescue animals—pets or wild—that accidentally get trapped in the bin.
