Afritada
The term Afritada was derived from the Spanish term “fritada” meaning to fry. Its main difference from the three (3) other dishes is that it features chicken which is cooked in tomato sauce. It also has carrots, potatoes, and bell peppers.
Menudo
Menudo is a favorite of many people. However, it is hard to distinguish it from Afritada, Mechado, and Kaldereta if you do not know their difference. What makes Menudo unique is that it uses pork and chopped hotdogs. It is also cooked in tomato sauce with potatoes like the other dishes mentioned.
Mechado
Mechado usually features beef meat. It is cooked in tomato sauce, vinegar, and soy sauce. This popular dish also has carrots and potatoes. Its thicker sauce is also one of its uniqueness from the three (3) other dishes that it is usually confused with.
Kaldereta
In cooking Kaldereta, it is either goat or beef meat which are used. Its main difference is that it is cooked with liver spread apart from the tomato sauce. It also has carrots, bell peppers, and potatoes like the Afritada.
