In a photo-op, Romualdez was hit in the eye
MARTIN ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker could only squint his eyes after getting hit while someone was taking a picture with him.
Ferdinand Martin “Martin” Romualdez is a Filipino businessman, lawyer, and politician. He currently serves as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, a position he assumed on July 25, 2022. In addition to his role as Speaker, Romualdez represents the 1st District of Leyte in the House of Representatives, a position he has held since 2019, with a previous term from 2007 to 2016.
Romualdez is associated with the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats political party and has played a significant role in various capacities within the political landscape. He has experience as the House Majority Leader from 2019 to 2022 and made an unsuccessful run for a senatorial position in the 2016 elections. Romualdez is notable for his familial connections, being a first cousin to President Bongbong Marcos.
Apart from his political career, Romualdez is involved in business and media. He owns newspaper companies, including Manila Standard and Journal Group of Publications, as well as the mass media firm Philippine Collective Media Corporation.
Romualdez’s educational background includes attending Cornell University in the United States, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in government in 1985. He furthered his studies with a Certificate of Special Studies in Administration and Management from Harvard University in 1988. He then pursued legal education at the University of the Philippines College of Law, obtaining his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1992. He was admitted to the bar in 1993.
Meanwhile, a video of the House Speaker getting hit in the eye while someone was taking a picture with him has surfaced online. As they posed for a photo, the man holding the flag accidentally struck Romualdez in the eye.
Romualdez can be seen squinting after being hit. The man taking the photo is seen holding a paper that says, “please support VP Inday Sara Duterte.” Those taking pictures also thanked him for his support for Duterte.
