Prices for Media Noche items in NCR
MEDIA NOCHE – The prices for items in NCR markets are currently steady, with no changes noted since Christmas Eve at Mega Q Mart in Quezon City.
According to vendors, stability is expected until the weekend, after which an increase may occur. Fruit prices, such as suha (pomelo), dragonfruit, seedless grapes, orange, and ponkan, are currently fixed. Popular round fruits for Media Noche spreads, believed to bring prosperity, are priced as follows:
- Suha (pomelo): P170/kilo
- Dragonfruit: P240/kilo
- Seedless grapes: P250/kilo
- Orange and ponkan: P30 each
Prices for chicken, pork, beef, seafood, and vegetables have also remained constant since Christmas. A whole chicken is sold at P170/kilo, wings at P200/kilo, and chicken breasts at P180-185/kilo. Pork prices include Kasim and porkchop at P300/kilo, and Liempo at P380/kilo. Beef prices consist of Buto-buto at P300/kilo, Laman at P390/kilo, and Brisket at P360/kilo. Seafood prices include Shrimp at P380/kilo, Pusit at P580/kilo, and Tilapia at P130/kilo. Vegetable prices include Carrots at P140/kilo, Onion at P160/kilo, Garlic at P150/kilo, and Tomato at P60/kilo.
Trabajo Market in Sampaloc, Manila, also reports stable prices since December 23, with vendors anticipating an increase by December 29. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assured the public that prices for Media Noche items, basic necessities, and prime commodities will remain stable until New Year’s Eve, as people generally purchase the same items for both Noche Buena and Media Noche.
“Media Noche” is a traditional Filipino midnight feast held on New Year’s Eve, where families and friends come together to share a festive meal. The spread includes a variety of dishes, such as lechon, ham, queso de bola, fruit salad, pancit, and kakanin. Round fruits, symbolizing prosperity, are often featured. The meal is enjoyed just before midnight, fostering a sense of joy and togetherness as Filipinos welcome the New Year with gratitude and anticipation for the future.
