Steps on How To Update SSS Contribution Online & Who Are Allowed
HOW TO UPDATE SSS CONTRIBUTION ONLINE – Here is a guide for members on how you can update your monthly contribution to the Social Security System.
Millions of Filipinos are in the pursuit to maintain updated accounts to the Social Security System, more popularly called SSS. It is an excellent preparation against the unforeseen circumstances like sudden job loss, disability, sickness, and even death.
To keep your SSS account updated, it is important to regularly post monthly contributions to the Social Security System. It can qualify you to the SSS loan offers that can be applied for online and benefits offered for members. However, truth be told that there are at times cases when a member can no longer afford his/her contribution rate or there is a desire to increase it, it is possible and can be done online.
The Social Security System allows its member to update their SSS contribution online but the process is not the same for everyone. In the case of locally-employed members, it has to be their employer or the company that they are working for which must update their monthly contribution rates.
On the other side, under the SSS Circular No. 2015-007, there are also members of the state-run social insurance agency who may easily and freely update their monthly contribution rates. Here are the conditions set by the state entity:
Self-Employed Members
- For members below 55 years old, the Social Security System has set an unlimited number of updates.
- For members who are aged 55 and above, the monthly contributions can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Voluntary Members
- For members below 55 years old, the SSS allows unlimited number of updates allowed.
- For members who are aged 55 and above, the SSS monthly contribution is allowed for raise only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Members
- For members below 55 years old, the state-run social insurance institution has set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
- For members who are aged 55 and above, the SSS monthly contributions can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Non-Working Spouse
With regards to the non-working spouses of SSS member, the changing of contribution rate is allowed at any age. However, the frequency will depend on the changes in the declared income of the working husband/wife.
The SSS noted that self-employed, voluntary, and OFW members of the state entity who are aged 55 and below may decrease the monthly contribution. However, the lowered rate must not be lower than their MSC or their Monthly Salary Credit.
With regards to the process on how to update your SSS contribution online, it is very easy once you have a My.SSS account. Here are the steps in updating your contribution rates:
Step 1 — Log in to your My.SSS account.
Step 2 — Click “Payment Preference Number (PRN)”.
Step 3 — Click Generate PRN.
Step 4 — Pick your Membership Type, Applicable Period You Want To Pay for, and your new SSS contribution amount.
Step 5 — Copy the Payment Reference Number (PRN).
Step 6 — Make your monthly contributions to the SSS.
