Hardworking Grandpa Touches Many Hearts for Selling Dust Pans Despite Old Age
A hardworking grandpa sells dust pans despite old age to help his family and send his grandkids to school as well.
In Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, a resilient 67-year-old man named Alberto Anig-Ig or known as Tatay Alberto sells handmade dustpans to make ends meet for his children and grandchildren despite his old age.
Tatay Alberto, a proud resident of Mina, Sipalay City, roams the busy marketplaces with determination, carrying the dustpan he sells. His dedication is not without its challenges, as he battles the discomfort of arthritis while striving to provide for his five children and their respective families.
During his younger years, Tatay Alberto worked as a carpenter, skillfully crafting homes and furniture. Now, he has found happiness in creating dust pans, each priced at P50, to sustain his family’s needs and contribute to his grandchildren’s education.
Tatay Alberto’s daily routine involves traveling the entire Sipalay market and the nearby areas in Mina, carrying his handmade dustpans to potential buyers. Despite the humble sales, he finds joy in being able to bring home a sack of rice.
With 12 dust pans sold on a good day, Tatay Alberto appreciates every sale, no matter how small. He remains hopeful for a brighter future for his grandchildren amidst the economic hardships.
His dream is to see them finish their education and to provide daily support for his family’s basic needs.
“May dala koya Bugas sa Balay, makakaon lang kami subra pa sa tatlo ka besis sa isa ka adlaw, lipay na ko sina,” he said.
