Lola Amour issues an apology over ‘Raining in Manila’ music video teaser
LOLA AMOUR – The OPM band issued an apology in response to the mixed reactions that their teaser for the “Raining in Manila” music video received from netizens.
The OPM band took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their understanding of their fans’ disappointment and acknowledged that they had not been sensitive enough in presenting the teaser. They offered their apologies and encouraged fans to give the full music video a chance, as they believed it had been misrepresented by the teaser.
The controversy arose from a 34-second video teaser that featured the band members on a boat in the middle of a flooded area. Many netizens were disappointed and accused the band of romanticizing the suffering of Filipinos during calamities. Some likened it to when wealthy individuals document their charity work for attention.
In response to the criticism, Lola Amour shared additional information about the music video, stating that it tells the story of a man who reconnects with his long-lost wife through a magic gecko, set in an alternate timeline where it has been raining for 1427 days.
Despite the initial backlash, Lola Amour went on to release the full music video for “Raining in Manila” on Thursday. The video presents an alternate reality narrative following the story of John and his missing wife, Shiela, and how they reconnected through a magical gecko.
It’s worth noting that “Raining in Manila” had already become a sensation since its release in June, with even prominent figures like ENHYPEN, BamBam, and National Artist Ricky Lee expressing their appreciation for the track. The band had also embarked on a tour named after their popular hit song.
In addition to “Raining in Manila,” some other songs by Lola Amour include “Fallen,” “Pwede Ba,” “Maybe Maybe,” “Madali,” “Sundan Mo Ko,” and “Valerie.”
