LA Tenorio: “I didn’t want my friends to take pity on me, so I carried on as if I had no illness.”
LA TENORIO – After he announced that his cancer is in remission, the basketball player opened up about his journey to recovery.
Tenorio was part of the coaching staff of Gilas Pilipinas at the Asian Games in China. His triumph over stage 3 colon cancer and Gilas’ victory reaffirms what a champ he truly is.
In an interview with Inquirer, Tenorio said that the mental aspect was harder than the physical aspect but being a PBA player helped him because he has been trained to be mentally tough as a pro-cager.
Tenorio also said that it was his unwavering faith in God and his support system that saw him through it. Aside from his family, the PBA veteran shared that different groups of friends accompanied him on each trip to Singapore for his chemotherapy sessions.
According to him, he didn’t want his friends to take pity on him and so he carried on as if he had no illness. He added that he kept himself busy and also stayed positive.
When asked how it feel to be back in action, the PBA player said that he feels like a “rookie” who is eager to step on the basketball court and do what he loves most after 7 months of not playing basketball.
He was also asked to give advice to those people who are battling cancer.
“Don’t wallow in self-pity and don’t lose hope. Always focus on your purpose in life to keep you going,” LA Tenorio said in an interview with Inquirer.
It was last September when the basketball player announced on his social media account that his cancer is finally in remission. At that time, he shared that his journey was an experience he will never forget.
