Most Stolen Cars 2023

Once again, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and HEMI models have claimed the top spots as the most pilfered vehicles for the 2020-22 model year. Indeed, Dodge Charger variants have secured the leading positions on this list yet again. As per the most recent HLDI report on comprehensive vehicle theft[1], the instances of theft for the Charger SRT Hellcat far exceeded the average for all models from 2020 to 2022.

The rate of theft claims for the Charger SRT Hellcat surpassed its presence on the road by more than 60 times. Similarly, theft claims for the Charger HEMI were over 20 times greater than the norm.

Since 2011, models like the Charger and Challenger, equipped with robust engines, have consistently ranked among the top five most stolen vehicles. However, what’s surprising is the noticeable uptick in theft claims for these models. There’s also been a noteworthy viral trend that’s propelled four Kia models into the top 20 most stolen vehicles.

In the 2020-22 timeframe, there were 25 theft claims for every 1,000 insured vehicle years for Charger SRT Hellcat models. This marks an increase from the roughly 18 theft claims for the 2019-21 models. To provide some perspective, the Infiniti Q60, which held the title of the most stolen model from 2017 to 2019, had a theft rate of just two thefts per 1,000 insured vehicle years.
