Pia Wurtzbach reaches out to Ricky Lee regarding the “hawi” incident
PIA WURTZBACH – Miss Universe 2015, reached out to National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee to apologize for the “hawi” incident that occurred at the recent Manila International Book Fair (MIBF).
This announcement was made by the King of Talk, Boy Abunda, during a segment of his show, “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” According to the award-winning host, he also felt bad about what happened to Ricky.
“I felt bad for Ricky,” Boy said. “Take away the national artist title, take away anything. Ricky is one the most beautiful people I’ve met in my life. He doesn’t like to call attention to this.” He added: “Pero ang maganda ho nito, ang balita namin ay nag-reach out na si Pia, even if it was not Pia’s fault, to apologize, to say sorry na nangyari ito.”
Tito Boy also mentioned that while the issue has been resolved, there should be a lesson learned in how we treat others. “Importante na tinatrato natin ang, number one, seniors. Number two, this was a book fair, this was a cultural event. Actually may batas po eh, kung paano tinatrato mga ang national artist,” he stressed. “But I’d to pay tribute to Ricky for remaining such a humble person. Ikaw ang dapat tularan naming lahat. I bow to you,” he remarked.
To recall, netizens were angered on social media when they saw a video from ABS-CBN News in which it appeared that a marshal of the beauty queen blocked the National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. It happened after he shook hands with and greeted Pia, who was also at MIBF for the launch of her book “Queen of the Universe: A Novel.” Pia extended her hand to Ricky, but he was unable to proceed as the marshal intervened.
Netizens believe that the guard did not recognize the National Artist. However, netizens also criticized Pia, saying that she should have at least stopped and informed the marshal that she knew the person she was talking to.
