NAIA Staff Claims She Swallowed Chocolates, Not Dollars

Security personnel of NAIA says she swallowed chocolates and not the missing $300

CHOCOLATES, NOT DOLLARS? – The personnel from the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) implicated in the recent theft at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 is claiming that she swallowed chocolates and not the missing $300.

To assert her innocence, she submitted an additional affidavit. However, the OTS fact-finding team remains unconvinced. According to OTS administrator Undersecretary Mao Aplasca, they find it unusual that someone would struggle so much to consume chocolate and even need to wash it down with water. They firmly believe that what she swallowed was not chocolate.

“Hindi naman normal na kumain ng tsokolate, hirap na hirap at tinutulak pa nya ng tubig. Hindi mo kailangan ng tubig. ‘Yun talaga ang paniniwala nila, na hindi yun tsokolate,” Aplasca said.

Earlier, the OTS had placed the accused personnel, her supervisor, and another staff member who provided her with bottled water under preventive suspension. They are also facing an administrative case for grave misconduct. If found guilty, they may also face theft charges.

Aplasca expressed frustration over the incident, recognizing that people might think the criminal case won’t prosper due to the absence of a complainant who has lost interest. However, he assured that they would explore legal avenues to address this issue. Furthermore, an investigation is underway involving at least 14 other OTS personnel who were on duty that day.

Meanwhile, Bryan Co, the officer-in-charge of the Manila International Airport Authority, expressed disappointment in the recent incident, stating that it undermines efforts to enhance NAIA’s services. On the other hand, Jaime Bautista, the secretary of the Department of Transportation recommended imposing the maximum penalty on any airport personnel found guilty in connection with the incident.
