Young Actor JM Canlas Dies at 17

JM Canlas passes away at the age of 17

JM CANLAS – The younger brother of actor Elijah Canlas and a rising star in his own right, passed away on August 3 at the age of 17. His brother Jerom conveyed the sad news through a heartfelt message on Facebook.

In his touching post, Jerom expressed the profound grief their family is experiencing and announced JM’s untimely departure. He described JM as a multi-talented individual who excelled in various fields, such as acting, athletics, music, singing, debating, and gaming.

While the exact cause of JM’s death was not immediately disclosed, Jerom bravely shared that JM had been facing mental health challenges during his adolescence. Jerom urged everyone to remember and celebrate JM’s remarkable and meaningful life, just as JM would have wished.

As a way of supporting those who might be going through difficult times, Jerom reminded readers to seek urgent attention if they are currently experiencing distress. Mental health is an important issue, and it’s crucial to offer support and understanding to those who may be struggling.

JM’s wake will be held at St. Peter Chapel on Quezon Avenue from August 4 to August 6. During his short but impactful career, JM appeared in notable films like “Kiko Boksingero” and “ANi,” as well as the 2018 short film “The Flaming History of the Dela Cruz Family,” where he co-starred with his brother Elijah. Moreover, JM showcased his talents as part of the one-act play “Mga Bata sa Selda 43” and as one of the hosts of the ABS-CBN children’s television show “Team Yey!”

Here’s an excerpt from the Facebook post of Jerom Canlas:

“It is with the heaviest heart and deep sorrow that our family announces the death of our bunso, Jamile Matthew Madiclum Canlas, earlier this morning. He was 17.

Jm, as he was known to many, was a talented actor, athlete, musician, singer, debater, and gamer. He was always a proud Filipino with a bias and compassion for the poor and oppressed. But most of all, JM will forever be remembered as an incredible young man, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, student, and friend.

Family and friends who are dear to JM, the wake will begin tomorrow, August 4, 8pm until Sunday, August 6 at St. Peter Chapel Quezon Avenue, Room 116. Let us celebrate his short but wonderful life, as he would want us to.

In his adolescence, JM struggled with his mental health.”
