Ninoy Aquino Day 2023 — President Bongbong Marcos Urges Pinoys To Transcend Political Barriers

President Bongbong Marcos on Ninoy Aquino Day 2023: “Let us transcend political barriers”

NINOY AQUINO DAY 2023 – As the Philippines commemorated late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.’s 40th death anniversary, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to transcend political barriers.

Signed into law in 2004, Republic Act No. 2956 declares the 21st day of August of every year as “Ninoy Aquino Day”. It’s a special non-working holiday nationwide commemorating the death anniversary of late Senator Ninoy Aquino.

This year marks the 40th death of the late senator.

In a statement on Monday, the President said that the late senator became an example of being relentless and resolute for many Filipinos by fighting for battles he deemed right and by standing for his beliefs.

He also urged Filipinos to unite for the country’s welfare and progress and to set aside political differences.

In our purposive quest for a more united and prosperous Philippines, let us transcend political barriers that hamper us from securing the comprehensive welfare and advancement of our beloved people,” the President said.

Also, President Bongbong Marcos referred to love for the nation as the compass that will help the Philippines foster a “more enlightened and harmonious” environment.

The President then urged Filipinos to develop a country that is grounded in reason and fortitude, where “boundaries of our personal biases fade” and “welfare of all become our priority”.

It can be recalled that late senator Benigno Aquino Jr. was assassinated upon arrival in Manila International Airport (now named in his honor) from the United States where he was on exile for 3 years, on August 21, 1983.

Ninoy Aquino’s death was a turning point in then President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s rule, leading to his ouster in the EDSA People Power Revolution three years later on February 25, 1986.
