In exchange for P20K, a lolo from Cebu accepted the challenge to undergo circumcision
LAPU-LAPU CITY – A 73-year-old man from the province of Cebu recently underwent circumcision in exchange for P20,000.
This initiative was courtesy of Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, who encouraged older individuals to get circumcised by offering financial assistance. Those who accept the challenge received P20,000.
Among those who accepted the challenge is a senior citizen known as ‘Lolo Mado’, who bravely accepted the mayor’s offer and had a successful operation. He is currently recovering at home. Speaking in Cebuano, he jokingly said, “Ke tanda ko na nga naman eh magba-viral pa sa ganito.”
Although Mayor Chan declined to share further details about Lolo Mado, some reports indicate that he has seven children and 62 grandchildren. According to Lolo Mado, he and his friends initially planned to get circumcised when they were young, but fear got the best of them, and they decided to back out. He explained that in their time, circumcision was done using small knives, which made them apprehensive. Despite his initial fear, Lolo Mado’s bravery inspired many other men to consider getting circumcised even at an older age.
Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu City Cebu Health office is also encouraging its elderly residents to avail of free circumcision services. Dr. Agnes Cecile Balbuena-Realiza, the City Health Officer, emphasized the health benefits of circumcision and explained that the mayor is offering a financial incentive of 10,000 pesos to motivate men above the age of 20 who are still uncircumcised to come forward for the procedure.
