Here’s an update on PBBM’s campaign promise about the P20/kilo rice
P20/KILO RICE – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized his administration’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of reducing rice prices to P20 per kilogram.
Although the goal has not been achieved yet, he assured that they were making every effort to make it a reality. “Iyong ating hangarin na 20 pesos na bigas [kada kilo] eh wala pa tayo roon, pero ginagawa natin ang lahat,” he said. President Marcos made this statement during the nationwide launch of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program, which took place in San Fernando City, Pampanga.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo program, one of the main initiatives led by President Marcos as the agriculture secretary, aims to lower the prices of agricultural products by establishing direct connections between farmers and consumers. The program simplifies the process by bringing farmers closer to the market, reducing the involvement of middlemen and the additional costs they bring. President Marcos expressed satisfaction with the program’s initial success.
However, he stressed that the ultimate objective of the Kadiwa program extends beyond price reduction. The program also aims to enhance agricultural productivity to ensure an adequate food supply for both domestic consumption and potential exportation.
President Marcos acknowledged that launching the Kadiwa program alone does not signify sufficient production levels. He emphasized the need for continued hard work to not only meet the country’s agricultural and food demands but also to have surplus for exportation to other countries.
