The new logo of PAGCOR
PAGCOR – The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has elicited negative comments following the unveiling of its newest logo.
PAGCOR is a government-owned and controlled corporation in the Philippines that regulates and operates various types of gambling activities in the country. PAGCOR was created in 1977 through Presidential Decree No. 1067-A with the goal of generating revenue for the government and promoting tourism and economic development.
PAGCOR’s main responsibilities include licensing and regulating casinos, electronic gaming establishments, bingo halls, and other forms of gambling operations. It also operates its own casinos and gaming venues under the “Casino Filipino” brand. The revenue generated from these activities is used to support various government projects and programs, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and socio-civic initiatives.
In addition to its regulatory and operational functions, PAGCOR is also involved in promoting responsible gaming practices and implementing measures to prevent and combat illegal gambling activities in the Philippines. The organization plays a significant role in the Philippine gambling industry and has contributed to the growth and development of the country’s gaming sector.
On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, introduced its newest logo as part of its 40th-anniversary celebration. The unveiling of the logo was attended by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Alejandro H. Tengco, the Chairman and CEO of PAGCOR was the one who presented the logo to the government officials.
“The new PAGCOR logo incorporates the element of fire associated with energy, inspiration, passion, and transformation. It symbolizes the flame that ignites change and drives progress,” he said. “The logo likewise reflects a beacon which symbolizes guidance, leadership, and direction. It represents a guiding light that helps people find their way,” he added.
Apparently, the newest logo was put under scrutiny. Some questioned its design as well as the budget allegedly spent to come up with the new logo. Among those who criticized the new logo is social media personality Rendon Labador. In the comment section of Philippine Star’s post, he noted: “Sobrang panget ng logo! parang gawa ng grade 1.”
