Interior Design Student Earns Praises Online After Sharing His Amazing Plate
Piolo Miguel Barcelona, an interior design student, impressed the netizens after sharing his amazing artwork.
As part of their Finishing Materials and Resources 2 subject, their professor assigned them to create five plates depicting different materials used in interior design perspectives. One of the materials Piolo chose to showcase was tiles, particularly marble.
Barcelona explained that he took inspiration from a plate exhibited in PUP (Polytechnic University of the Philippines) that featured a marble floor. He wanted to experiment with rendering glossy materials and decided to paint a marble tile using watercolors.
The process of accurately portraying colors and creating the negative spaces required by the marble texture was challenging but something Piolo was confident in due to his years of experience in arts and design.
Despite the demanding nature of the Interior Design course, Piolo managed to complete this particular plate in just 22 hours. He considered it one of his best works, along with other midterm plates he uploaded on his Facebook account.
The result of his plate surprised even himself, as watercolor can be unpredictable, and the final outcome is often revealed only after removing masking tape and fluid.
Piolo expressed his pride and satisfaction with his accomplishment. He believed that this artwork showcased his skills in controlling the brush and accurately emulating colors.
The fact that he was able to complete it within a tight timeframe made him even more proud, especially since he submitted all five plates a week before the deadline.
“Actually, even I was very surprised with what turned out. My process doesn’t allow me to ‘see’ the result immediately which is somewhat of a risk in watercolor. Even so, after peeling out the masking tape and fluid, I already knew that this was one of the best works that I have done ever. Considering that I did it in a small amount of time surprised me and I couldn’t have been even more proud of myself since I was able to pass five of these monster plates a week before the deadline!” Piolo said.
