Bongbong Marcos Says No One is Volunteering to be Agriculture Secretary: “Ayaw akong paalisin”

President Bongbong Marcos claims no one is volunteering to be secretary of the DA

NO DA SECRETARY YET? – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed his need for volunteers to fill the position of Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), jokingly stating that he was not allowed to step down from the role.

At present, the DA is the only government department without a Secretary, as Marcos himself currently holds the position.

Marcos stated, “Tinatanong ko sa kanilang lahat, inaantay ko mag volunteer sila mag secretary, ayaw akong paalisin.” He emphasized that the DA had urgent matters to address, such as the food supply crisis, fluctuating prices of agricultural commodities, and rising fertilizer costs.

While there has been some stabilization in the prices of agricultural commodities, Marcos acknowledged the need for structural changes to boost production and ensure a steady food supply not only for rice but also for corn, fisheries, and livestock. He made these comments during an impromptu interview.

Despite highlighting the important structural changes that have taken place under his leadership, Marcos admitted that there is still much work to be done. He expressed his aspiration to leave behind a well-established system within the DA, guaranteeing the food supply of the Philippines when he eventually steps down.

Additionally, Marcos emphasized his commitment to keeping food prices affordable while enabling farmers to have a sustainable livelihood. He humorously added, “Until those are accomplished, I suppose you will just have to put up with me as the DA secretary.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture is the governmental organization tasked with facilitating and advancing agricultural growth through the provision of policy guidelines, public investments, and support services essential for both local and export-oriented agricultural businesses.
