Ariel Rivera: “I am who I am because of my dad.”
ARIEL RIVERA – The singer-actor broke down in tears as he opened up about his last moments with his father.
The singer-actor appeared on Friday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” where he and King of Talk Boy Abunda talked about fathers because Father’s Day will be celebrated on June 18, 2023.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, the singer-actor was asked about the last conversation he had with his dad was.
He shared that it was a little before Christmas 2019 when he received a call from his brother Marvin, who was presumably in Canada with their parents. According to him, his brother told him that their father wasn’t doing well.
“Something’s wrong with him. He had sepsis na pala, but he was home. Parang, he seems lost. He’s not himself,” the singer-actor said.

Ariel then asked his brother if their dad was okay, and his brother said yes but that “something’s wrong”. The singer-actor got on a call with his father and asked him if he was okay.
“He was off topic, like it wasn’t him I was talking to,” he said.
According to him, his two children were in the Philippines and so they decided to go to Japan. While they’re in Japan at that time, the singer-actor was told that their dad was rush to the hospital.
They decided to go back to the Philippines right away and he got the first flight to Toronto. He shared that his father was in ICU when he saw him, adding that his dad was breathing because of the apparatus.
“I just whispered in his ear, and said thank you dad. For everything you’ve done for me, you’ve given me. Don’t worry I’ll take care of mom. Kung pagod na kayo, magpahinga na kayo. That’s all I said,” Ariel recalled, breaking down in tears.
Ariel Rivera’s father passed away just before the New Year.
The singer-actor also paid tribute to his father, saying, “I am who I am because of my dad.” He shared that his father brought them up through his actions, but his dad was never the type that would say “I love you” or “I’m proud of you. Tama yung ginagawa mo.”
