ROAD ACCIDENT – A 4-year-old child died after being hit by a bus on Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview, Quezon City.
Road accidents in the Philippines that involve children are a major concern as it continues to be reported. These accidents happen in various ways, including children being hit by vehicles, children being passengers in vehicles that get into accidents, or children being victims of reckless driving. Irresponsible behavior on the part of motorists is often the cause of these accidents, which includes speeding, drunk driving, and distracted driving.
Poor road infrastructure and low enforcement of traffic laws also contribute to these accidents. The consequences of these accidents can be devastating, not only for the children involved but also for their families. Raising awareness about road safety and implementing stricter traffic laws and regulations are some of the efforts being made to address this issue.
Speaking of which, a 4-year-old child died after being hit by a bus on Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview, Quezon City. According to the initial police investigation, the young boy was on the sidewalk when he was suddenly hit by the passenger bus. After being hit, he was also struck by an SUV. Another student who was also on the sidewalk sustained injuries.
The driver of the bus claimed that the brakes failed. However, according to QCPD Traffic Sector 5 officer-in-charge Hermogenes Portes Jr., the MMDA towing services reported that the brakes were in good condition. Therefore, it was purely human error on the part of the driver.
The driver first hit the 12-inch gutter on the bridge, causing the tire to bounce and ultimately hit the victim. The driver is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage of properties with physical injuries resulting in homicide. The Quezon City Traffic Sector continues to investigate the incident for further details.
