Out Of The Blue Meaning & Sentence Examples

Out Of The Blue Definition, Sentence Examples

OUT OF THE BLUE MEANING – Find out what out of the blue really means. Example sentences of this idiomatic expression can also be found here.

The idiom “out of the blue” is a modified version of the proverb “a bolt from the blue” or “a bolt out of the blue.” A lightning strike on a clear, sunny day is an example of anything that happens unexpectedly and is referred to as a “bolt out of the blue.”

We refer to unexpected changes in circumstances as coming “out of the blue” in the same way as lightning strikes a clear sky before immediately dissipating. As a result, we often refer to this as a “sudden situation.” However, through time, “a bolt out of the blue” became more often known as “out of the blue.”
