In learning English, there are topics that their mastery could really be a big help in perfecting writing and speaking in English. They are like basic foundations in learning the other topics in the subject.

One of these topics that is considered a foundation in learning English is parts of speech. There are eight (8) parts of speech in English – Noun, Pronoun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Preposition, Conjunction, and Interjection.

Each of the aforementioned parts of speech has specific functions. In this article, we will learn about pronoun.

Pronoun

Pronoun are used in a similar way as nouns – they stand as subject in a sentence. However, pronouns are used as alternatives or to stand in nouns that have already been mentioned in a paragraph. They are the solutions to prevent redundancy.

Examples of Pronouns:

  • He
  • She
  • It

Pronouns used in Sentences:

The pronoun I is used to refer to the speaker in the sentence or paragraph. Here are some examples of sentences using this pronoun:

  • I want to go to the mall tomorrow and buy some gifts for my nephews and nieces back in the Philippines.
  • I called Nathan early today so he can prepare the room before the guests will arrive.
  • I made sure that the money given to Ben is enough for all his expenses so there’s nothing to worry.

The pronoun he is used to substitute to a male doer of the action. Here are some examples of sentences using this pronoun:
