Here’s a hilarious alternative to white onions in corned beef according to a netizen
“LAKING TIPID!” – A male netizen took to social media wherein he flexed an “alternative” to white onions as toppings of corned beef.
A crucial component in Filipino cuisine, along with garlic, is the onion. Consumers were particularly hard-hit by the price increase during the year-end holidays, when food was a major focus of many gatherings. This led to many people venting their frustrations on social media.
Based on the retail prices of farm commodities tracked by the Department of Agricuture (DA) as of Jan. 9, 2023, red onions were selling from 480 pesos to 600 pesos a kilogram , and the white variety was priced at 450 pesos to 600 pesos, or about three times the price of chicken and about 25% more expensive than beef.
Recently, teacher “Arjay Salinas Fariñas” took to social media wherein he shared an alternative to white onions in corned beef. Usually, white onions serve as toppings to corned beef.
“Laking tipid!” he noted in the caption of his post. Based on the photo, instead of the regular white chopped onions, he placed Onion Rings (a type of junk food) as toppings of the corned beef.
In an interview, Sir Arjay told Balita Online that he was not the one who originally took the photo but only got it from another social media uploader. “Katuwaan lang po ‘yan, sana po walang magalit sa akin,” he said.
