On Friday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said that the President has ordered the speeding up of the digitalization of the National ID system that could be used for private and public transactions

In a statement, the PCO said that the President made the order during his meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) on Digital Infrastructure in Malacañang last Thursday.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the plan of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to pursue a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project for the launching of its “Digital PhilID App”.

Naiwanan na tayo sa technology, so we have to catch up,” the PCO quoted the President as saying.

Also, the PCO announced that the PhilSys (Philippine Identification System) is eyeing to launch the said app in the first quarter of 2023.

The PCO added that such digitalization would include the following: digital wallet; automated eKYC (Know Your Customer); credit card and loan applications; and identity theft protection.

According to the PCO, the ePhilID integration to a digital wallet will address long queues whenever the public avail of the government’s AICS (Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations) aid, ease the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) measures in the disbursement of government cash aid, and be equipped with anti-fraud and anti-scamming measures.
