Meet Lyka Lagasca, a former Miss Philippines-Earth 2020 candidate who is now a soldier
LYKA LAGASCA – The former Miss Philippines-Earth 2020 candidate is now a soldier of the Philippine Army.
The 23-year-old former beauty pageant candidate was hailed 2nd lieutenant of the Philippine Army after passing the Officer Candidate Course or OCC in January 2023.
She was once one of the official candidates of the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 pageant. She even received a special award called the Eco-Angel Award when she joined the said pageant.
Lyka never dreamed of entering the military because she knew that the training was too physical. “Sinubukan ko lang po talaga i-try kasi bibihira lang din po ang mga babae sa military,” she said in the report of GMA News.
Lyka graduated in Travel Management from the University of Santo Tomas in 2019.
According to her, the opportunities she had probably inspired her to join the army. Lyka is a former youth leader of the Youth Leadership Seminar which is an initiative of military officers.
She also shared that the pandemic was among the reasons why she entered the military school. Despite being a soldier, she’s still open for the possibility to join beauty pageants again.
Meanwhile, Lyka Lagasca is not the only beauty pageant candidate who ventured into the military. It can be recalled that it was just last year when Mary Nicole Gee, a former beauty queen, joined the military. At the time, she entered the Philippine Army as a second lieutenant.
